Lily Allen is back in the hospital with a possibly-lethal blood infection shortly after announcing she had lost her pregnancy, six months in progress.
The 25 year-old songstress had just broke the news that she was expecting her first child with her beau, Sam Cooper, 31 years of age. She also revealed that she had waited for some time to share the joyful news due to a previous miscarriage.
Sadly, the child was not meant to be, and Ms. Allen, being obviously crushed by the news, has understandably stayed out of the spotlight except for a brief statement on Twitter in which she thanked her fans for their support, stating, “I’m still very sick, but the messages are helping me to be stronger. Thank you.”
Days later, the singer was rushed to the hospital where she was diagnosed with septicaemia, a blood poisoning infection that is bacterial in nature. It occurs when an infection in the bloodstream causes the body’s immune system to start attacking the body it is meant to protect. The window to treat is very small and if left unchecked, can result in fatal septic shock. Actor Christopher Reeve of Superman fame was one of the cases that had such a sad outcome.
Lily Allen’s rep has since released a statement on behalf of the singer and her beau, reporting that, “The singer is currently responding well to treatment and her condition continues to improve. Lily thanks everyone for their messages of support and again asks that she and partner Sam Cooper be left alone whilst she recovers.”
We wish Lily Allen a quick recovery of her health & soul.
